As a child I experienced some special pony’s who sometimes took more than an hour to catch, although I found it difficult to catch them at the time I learnt that I needed to find ways to communicate and connect with them so that catching them was easier. This created a a deep curiosity at an early age to find what consent looks like from a horse and how integral this is when a human is seeking this in a relationship with them. Growing up, my friends and I had a great time riding and exploring our local area, riding many kilometers each weekend. The horses taught us so much!
I have ridden and owned some amazing and different horses who would try most things that I asked of them, from gymkhana, cross-country, to show events and riding up mountains. These horses and I achieved a lot because I had built a connection with them beforehand and we had an authentic relationship before we began riding together. These horses all taught me so much!
I developed a curiosity into learning why some horses behave differently to others based around research into different types of training methods, horse ethology and environmental factors. This taught me so much knowledge which is ongoing!
My journey has always allowed for horses to be in my life and this has led me to find and implement connection with my horses through partnering with them through various natural horsemanship methods and equine assisted learning.
When my child was at the age to start riding a pony/horse I was brought back to the memory of how my own first pony was and how it can be difficult for parents to navigate that adventure. Finding a great horse riding instructor who can connect with horses and people helps to navigate this area much easier which is why I began Sunset Equine. This taught me so much!
We all learn so much from them, you can too at Sunset Equine!
